It’s the most amazing thing I have ever experienced…

…Is what the guy standing behind me at the Urban Iditarod said? I was busy taking pictures, I didn’t see who he was or who he was talking to but I do understand what he was talking about. It made me smile inside… and probably outside too!

Portland has a habit of surprising me and I truly feel blessed to have been led here by whatever forces do the leading… God… fate… whatever.

For the second year in a row now I have had the opportunity to experience something that only a city like Portland can offer. The cool thing is… it seems to happen often here.

Members of the cacophony society thrive here. Their love for chaos and beer is often channeled into massive annual public gatherings of good ol’ fashion (mostly legal) drunken debauchery.

Last weekends event was, as usual, INCREDIBLE!

150 “registered” teams of 5 people (add unregistered teams and spectators) all gathered under the Hawthorne Bridge. Each team dressed with a theme and a shopping cart decorated to match. The event was to be a 5 mile/5 bar pub crawl/run through downtown Portland.

There were Muppets, Greek gods, ninja turtles… ping pong balls… free chicken served by men in suits with giant chicken heads! There were men in tight shorts, dresses and suits of broccoli?

What is amazing to me is how connected I feel to these people. These crazy people are my friends! I am part of this… How cool is that! I was there to cheer them on… with my giant pom-poms! Once again, here to help keep Portland Weird!
