Breakfast for 1…

I’m not exactly sure what made me want to go today.  I had to wake up early to take care of some work crap.  (I hired a new girl… yea!  No more weekend work!)  By the time I was done it was only about 8:30 in the morning.  I had no thing goin on so I figured… mech… why not go find some trendy care.  I can sit and journal and feel hipster-y.  Can you be hipster-y by yourself eating breakfast?  I will have to check the hipster handbook later!  Maybe if I had an apple Mac laptop?

Anyway… I had no idea where to go so I drove up a well-known trendy street here in Portland.  It’s on the border of the Pearl District although I don’t really consider it the Pearl.  It’s NW 23rd.  Lots of shops, bars, cafes and people walking all the time!  The first place I passed by was PACKED!!!  Good exposure but I was feelin kind of scrubby and had an overwhelming feeling if timidness so I kept driving.

I saw Rose’s…

I remember this place from when my restaurant was open.  I would hear my customers rave about the place but I had breakfast pizza so they came to my place too!  I heard it was super popular and the food was supposed to be AMAZING!

I am so picky about restaurant food.  If it’s not cheap, quick and convenient; meaning I have to sit to order and tip when I’m done, the check is 4 times the actual cost of the food, it had better be either something I can’t cook, wouldn’t cook or as good as if not better than something I do cook!  Otherwise, it’s just a waste of my money.  I leave feeling ripped if I didn’t totally LOVE it!

Well… I totally loved it!  I had chicken friend stead with eggs, potatoes and a biscuit.  I think it’s probably been years since I have been to a restaurant for breakfast and was impressed with EVERYTHING on my plate.  Usually there is only one thing that is really good and the rest is blech… or the portions are cruddy or it’s overpriced.  My total was just under $20 with tip (including a huge dessert thingy I took home with me).  The biscuit was light and moist instead of dry and flavorless like the one at Sanbourn.  I didn’t even finish my biscuit there.  The potatoes were really good… just like I would have made them and the chicken friend steak… well… I’ve been told that I make the best EVER!!!  This was, hands down, better than mine!!!

I’m looking at the MIPL calendar right now trying to figure out a day to post and event for breakfast.

I have to go back soon!!!
